Jensenâs POV
Jensenâs surprisingly nervous about Y/Nâs first day. He wants her to do well and like it, of course, but he is also a little apprehensive about how much sheâs going to act out. Already heâs had to punish her for sneaking out at night to God knows where to spend time with some stranger â no doubt a man much older than her, if her track record is anything to go by. Y/N has never been shy about what she gets up to, she likes to wave it in Jaredâs face. While Jared can recognise itâs just a big flashing I need help sign, Jensenâs not sure that Y/N can recognise that for herself. And Jared, as hard as he tries, just canât really fix her in the way she needs. He canât bring her mother back or say anything thatâll make Y/N realise that it was never her fault. Theyâve all tried so hard to keep Y/Nâs memories of her Mom good ones, despite everything. Jared will probably never tell Y/N about Cait cheating on him with her boss, about the fights they had, or Jaredâs determination to make things work for their daughterâs sake. Jensenâs not even sure that Y/N knows that her mother was on antidepressants for most of her daughterâs life.
He wants this school to be the place that Y/N finds herself a little, matures and decides to put herself first, for once. She puts on such a front of being selfish and bratty but deep down, looking after herself, doing whatâs truly best for herself is bottom of that girlâs list. Jensen just needs a way to make her want to do better. He needs to get through to her in a way that sheâll understand. But right now, all she seems to understand is that sex gets her attention â the wrong kind of attention, but attention none the less, and thatâs clearly what sheâs craving. Any time Jensen tries to give her actual normal attention, she just pushes him away, or calls him embarrassing. The only time she seems to want his attention is if she thinks sheâs teasing him, getting the type of attention from him she always looks for from guys.
Jensen canât resist checking in on her at breakfast, worried that she might not know where to go or which class sheâs got first. Heâs pleased to find her sitting with Holly and some of Hollyâs friends. While there arenât really any âbad cliquesâ the way there usually are in public schools, and no group of girls will ever be as bad as her friends from her last school, Jensen is hoping that her and Holly bond, because Holly could be a great influence on Y/N, if she lets her be. Jensen just hopes it doesnât go the opposite direction; Hollyâs future is too bright for Y/N to be ruining that right now. He ignores the way she silently curses him for daring to approach her and asks her to step outside the hall with him. He tells himself this isnât special treatment, that heâd do the same for other transfer students, and he has done similar for new students in the past, too. Well, maybe not personally, but heâs always ensured that the vice principal looks after them. Heâs only doing this himself because⌠so itâs a little special treatment, but this is the only time. Thatâs what he promises himself, anyway.
âJensen, what the fuck?â
Jensen remains undeterred by Y/Nâs annoyance, finding it a little cute that sheâs so embarrassed to be seen talking to him.
âI just wanted to check that youâre okay. Youâve got your schedule? You know where your first class is?â He has a million more questions, but he decides not to bombard her with them.
âHonestly, youâre worse than Dad,â she sulks.
Jensen scoffs, licking his lips and looking around. Heâs already had a text from Jared this morning, so he wouldnât be surprised if she had too. âSue me for caring about you.â
âIâm fine, but I wonât be if you start pulling me out of breakfast for little chats. People are gonna think Iâm some teacherâs pet or something. Itâs so humiliating.â
Jensen smirks at the way her cheeks darken and laughs softly. âAlright, I get it, Iâm sorry. I wonât do it again. But youâll come to me if you need anything, wonât you?â
âYes!â Jensen doesnât care about the other students that are passing, even though Y/N clearly does. âPeople are gonna start talking, can you, like, tell me off or something, give me some bad girl credits?â
Jensen wants to roll his eyes at her sass, but he stops himself. Glancing over her uniform, remembering how sheâd tried to wear it at the store, he can see sheâs made little effort to stick to the dress code, and itâs only the first day.
âWell I wasnât going to say anything, but your skirt is too short,â he points out. He ignores the way her tongue starts to stick out, almost seductively, and continues. âAnd there are too many buttons undone on your shirt.â
âYou just keep noticing that, huh? Why are you looking?â
Jensenâs thoughts about Y/Nâs tongue vanish, and he swallows, keeping himself in Principal mode and not Uncle Jensen mode. âIâm serious, do them up.â
âBetter?â Jensen briefly glances at her chest, noticing an extra two buttons done up. Her cleavage is still visible but at least that pink lacy bra isnât on show now. She really has become a woman.
Jensen clears his throat and replies, âItâll do.â before turning on his heel and leaving.
He heads back towards his office, seeing Michaela has come in. She smiles brightly at him as soon as she sees him.
âMorning Jensen, looking very dapper today,â she compliments, âhow was your summer?â
âThe usual, how was yours?â he asks, digging his hands into his pockets and standing in front of her desk.
âSpent it in New York with my family, so it was good.â
âHave you changed your hair?â he frowns, realising itâs lighter than he remembers it being. Instinctively, she reaches up to touch it, playing with one of the soft curls.
âOh, yeah, my goddaughter convinced me to get highlights when we went to the salon, Iâm not sure about it,â she blushes.
âI think it looks great, it really suits you,â Jensen smiles warmly. She only blushes harder and clears her throat.
âThanks, I guess Iâll keep it.â
âYou should.â They smile at each other for a moment and then Jensen clears his throat. âRight, letâs kickstart this school year.â
Jensen spends most of his morning worrying about Y/N, but he hasnât heard anything from the vice principal, Keith, and Jensen had specifically told Keith that morning to report anything to do with Y/N back to him. He resists the urge to turn up at her classes to check in, knowing that she wonât be happy about that, and he did promise he wouldnât be overbearing. So instead, he tries to focus on actual work, playfully flirting with Michaela any time she comes in with paperwork for him. Michaelaâs attractive, but itâs never truly been like that between them. Even if it wasnât for Clarissa, Jensenâs not sure he could ever have a real relationship with someone he works so closely with. He sees Michaela more than he sees anyone else, and if things between them ever got weird or complicated, it would be messy. Still, the playful flirting and banter is harmless enough, and it helps pass the day.
It’s third period, and things seem to be going well. Jensen hasnât had any phone calls from Keith yet, and thatâs gotta be a good thing. Jensen loads up Y/Nâs schedule one more time just to check where she should be next, and tells himself that by next week, the novelty will have worn off, and heâll stop thinking about her as much. He never anticipated being this obsessed with Y/N and her wellbeing. He obviously cares about her doing well, but thereâs also more pressure than he anticipated to get her to do well. He promised his best friend that heâd take care of her, and he wants to ensure he doesnât break that promise. He always knew from what Jarerd had told him that Y/N was hard work, but heâd never expected her to be this hard. And Jensen doesnât like where his mind wanders to when he thinks about how to punish her. Itâs not exactly appropriate to put a young adult over your knee to spank her, as much as Jensenâs palm itches whenever she smirks at him.
The lines are blurry with Y/N. Heâd never dream of disciplining another student that way, but thereâs a familiarity with Y/N he doesnât have with other girls. Heâs known her since she was five. Maybe that makes it worse, maybe that makes him worse. Jensenâs not sure what it makes him, but he knows itâs not right, and itâs not something he should think about. He never used to, heâd never even considered Y/N in that way once, but the couple of years apart, the time it took for her to go from a child to a woman, have left Jensenâs mind spinning, and coupled with everything else going on in his life right now, heâs not sure he really knows what feelings heâs got for who or why anymore. But what he does know is that he shouldnât think about it any longer than he already has. He should push it to the back of his mind and forget all about it.
A knock at his door pulls him out of his thoughts, thankfully, and he calls them in to see itâs Jeff, his new Head of Sports.
âJeff, hey, how are you settling in?â Jensen asks, leaning back in his chair.
âYeah urm⌠this isnât good,â he replies sheepishly. Jensen frowns slightly, gesturing to the empty chair on the other side of his desk. Jeff gets the hint and takes a deep breath and takes the seat before saying: âI think I need to hand in my resignation.â
âWhat? Why? You only just got here! This school isnât that bad is it?â Jensen laughs, slightly confused.
âNo, the school is great and this job opportunity is amazing butâŚâ Jeff stops and bites his bottom lip for a second and then clears his throat. âThereâs really no easy way to say this, soâŚâ
Jensen frowns, wondering whatâs gotten Jeff so worked up. Even in his job interview, Jeff was fun and relaxed, full of smiles and cracking jokes.
âIâve slept with a student,â he confesses, looking down at the desk. âNot⌠I didnât realise she was a student,â he flusters as he goes on. But the information is still seeping into Jensenâs brain.
âShe urm⌠she was in a bar, and she had an ID for alcohol andâŚâ Jeff swallows, and Jensen notices that just under the extra growth of his beard, Jeffâs got a dark red mark on his throat, just likeâŚ
âFuck.â The understanding hits Jensen harder than heâd realised, because he practically shouts the word and Jeff stops, looking up at him with wide eyes. âNo, not youâŚâ Jensen rushes to reassure him. âI mean, itâs not a great situation,â he adds.
âThatâs probably an understatement, Iâve had sex with one of our students,â Jeff reiterates. âI mean, sheâs telling me sheâs eighteenââ
âShe is,â Jensen confirms, hoping to put Jeffâs mind at ease a little more.
âHow do you know who Iâm talking about?â he asks, frowning.
Jensen takes a deep breath and reaches up to pinch the bridge of his nose.
âY/N Padalecki, right?â he checks, hoping to God that Jeff isnât talking about another student using fake ID to go to bars and meet much older men. Though, part of him, he realises, is kind of hoping itâs not her. It feels like jealousy swelling in his chest, but then Jensen realises that being jealous like Y/N keeps teasing him about, is not an appropriate response to this sort of thing.
âYeah, how did you guess?â
âShe does this⌠this isâŚâ Jensen stops and sighs heavily. âYouâre not the first, and if she gets her way, you wonât be the last.â
âSheâs caused this kind of trouble before?â Jeff pries.
âNot in school, but⌠I know Y/N a little more… intimately than the other girls here.â
âYou do?â Jeff asks skeptically.
âI know the family,â Jensen explains carefully. âListen, Jeff, you donât have to hand in your notice. You did the right thing coming to me and telling me, and I can tell that it was a genuine mistake, so this can stay between us. Iâll have words with Y/N.â
âAre you sure? Listen, Jensen, if you need to fire meâŚâ
âNo, itâs fine, Jeff, really,â Jensen insists.
Not only does he not want the headache of finding a new Head of Sports at the beginning of a school year, but he knows Y/N well enough to know that Jeff didnât stand a chance against her. Jensen knows she uses fake ID to get herself into places, he knows she probably lies about her age to the men sheâs sleeping with. âIf she was underage then weâd have a more serious problem, but sheâs not. Sheâs retaking her senior year here.â
âOkay,â Jeff reluctantly agrees.
âIf youâd prefer me to move Y/N into a different class, maybe have her coached by Pat instead this year, I can do that.â
âNo, Iâll be fine,â Jeff insists. âAs long as she knows that it was something we wonât be repeating, Iâll handle myself.â
Jensen doesnât imagine Y/N being the kind of girl to develop feelings or a crush on someone like Jeff. He was clearly a good time sheâd had, and Jensenâs sure sheâd have had no plans of reliving those. At least, Jensen hopes so. That niggle of jealousy is back, and he clears his throat to abruptly dislodge the taste of it.
âAlright, then I think thatâs all we need to discuss. Thank you for telling me, Jeff.â
âOf course,â Jeff nods, smiling nervously. âAnd urm⌠if it does become an issue, please tell me.â
âSure,â Jensen agrees, mindlessly, because he canât see that becoming the case.
Jeff gives him one last anxious smile, and Jensen hears the phone ringing.
âIâll leave you to it,â Jeff explains, getting up.
As he leaves, Michaela pops her head around the door.
âItâs Keith for you.â Instantly, Jensen sighs, knowing it must be about Y/N. They were doing so well, but she couldnât even last half a day.
He picks up the phone frustrated, pressing the flashing button.
âHey Keith,â he sighs, already exasperated.
âHey Jensen, Y/N Padalecki? She hasnât turned up to Spanish. Itâs been half an hour now.â
âOkay, thanks Keith.â Jensen hangs up and rubs his forehead. âMichaela?â He calls, seeing her come into view. âPut out an announcement for Y/N Padalecki to come to my office immediately.â
She nods her understanding and disappears again. As his receptionistâs voice sounds out across the school, Jensen glances at his cell to see Jaredâs asked for a status report. He licks his lips, and considers whatâs just happened. Sheâs fucked her teacher already. Jeffâs over ten years older than both of them. The thought of her with Jeff only makes him angry, and then he thinks about why heâs angry, and fuck â itâs that jealousy again. Why does he keep feeling that? He thinks back over the conversation with Jeff, remembering keeping the details of who Y/N is to him vague, not wanting teachers to think heâs gonna give her special treatment, or that they have to, either.
Intimate. Why did he say that? Fuck, now Jeff probably thinks that somethingâs happened between them. Jeff probably thinks that Jensenâs fallen victim to her too. He hasnât â yet. Fuck, no, not at all, and he wonât. He groans, rubbing his head as it starts to spin and opens his top drawer of his desk to retrieve some aspirin for the headache heâs sure to get real soon. He picks up his cell and replies to Jared.
Jensen: Everythingâs good, dude.
âMr. Ackles? Y/N is outside,â Michaela tells him, opening his door slightly.
Jensen nods, taking a deep breath, and as she opens his door wider he can see Y/N standing with her arms crossed over her chest, those two buttons on her blouse undone again and her skirt far too short. Fuck, this isnât what he needs right now. Michaela smiles politely at her, gesturing at the open door way.
âPrincipal Ackles will see you now.â
