So what is The Hive?
The Hive is a discord server that is broken up into several (I might be excessive) sub-channels, all dedicated to different things. We have the chat channels, the channels dedicated to my writing and the channels dedicated to other writers who are in the hive to share and promote their work and get help from others.
I am extremely proud of the community and family feel that the Hive has. I feel incredibly lucky that the most active members are genuine, inclusive, loving people who will take anyone under their wing and make them feel at home as soon as they arrive. We run on a strict no hate or judgement policy, and so far we’ve never had any drama or issues – just the way it should be!

What is discord?
Discord is a social platform. It is primarily used as an app on your phone, but you can also download it on Mac or PC. It consists of different servers, in which people have their own categories and channels.
What can you do on there?
We mainly use text chat, though discord do have a feature for voice chatting and also video chatting. These are features we hope to use in the future for maybe an event or special occasion.
What does discord look like?
Here’s an idea of how the discord server looks. There are different channels for different subjects of chat. I like to separate these out so that any sensitive or NSFW content is contained and easily avoidable for anyone who doesn’t want to see it.
Safety First
Discord has some great features for keeping you safe. It allows you to mute any channels you’re not interested in. I.e if you don’t want to see NSFW content, you can mute those channels. If you don’t want to read anything that could be triggering, you can mute the IOTNBO channel etc etc
You are also able to set your own status. You can allow yourself to appear as online, idle, DND or simply appear offline.
You are able to block individuals and set which channels you get notifications for (if any).
And of course, if you have any issues with something or someone in the server, you should talk to me so I can resolve the issue as best as I can.
We run a strict ‘what happens in the hive stays in the hive’ policy in the server, so you can be assured that anything we talk about in there won’t leave the server. We want this to be a safe and welcoming space for everyone to feel free to express themselves. However, we also will not tolerate any hate or abuse towards anyone even if they are not part of the server.

Do I need to be part of the hive to be a member?
No, of course not! There’s no obligation to join the discord server if you don’t want to!
Do I have to be an active member?
Absolutely not! We are a community of 140+ which I understand sounds incredibly daunting, especially if you are not a social butterfly! However, only around 10% of the community are regularly active. You can be as active or inactive as you’d like. Some members read conversations but don’t join in. Some will add their odd thought here and there, and others (you’ll learn who they are) keep the hive buzzing almost 24/7!
What’s the benefit to being in The Hive?
There are channels of the Hive called “Sneak Peeks”, “Suggestions Box”, “All Vote Now”, meaning this is where I usually talk about my fics a little more freely than I do on my website/tumblr. I tend to use discord to help me decide things that are fic related.
It’s an opportunity to talk to my other readers about my fics. Several of my readers love to band together to form theories or just bully me for deciding to end the chapter on a cliffhanger (Which is totally fair)
If you’re also a writer (like a lot of my members are) there’s some great resources in the server to help you. You can also call on other writers for help whenever you need it.
You might make a friend for life! I adore the community we have created, and I’m sure you will too. There are no cliques, everyone is welcome and made to feel welcome the second they enter the server (And I love my members for that, thank you!)
